Designed to Hone Your Business and Analytical Skills

Designed expressly for technical professionals and managers, the Accelerated Master’s Degree Program in Systems Engineering is a hands-on, practical program of study that will give you the problem-solving and analytical skills you need to maximize existing resources and uncover breakthrough opportunities for your organization. The Program’s dual emphasis on engineering and business skills will place you in a unique position to further your company’s strategic goals. In fact, you’ll be able to take much of what you learn and apply it at work immediately. What’s more, you’ll complete the Program in just one year (May – April) by attending classes every other weekend on Friday and Saturday.

This unique, accelerated, one-year program was created by senior faculty at the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science in collaboration with the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration — coupling courses in business strategy and functionality with mathematics and modeling.

The Accelerated Master’s Program in Systems Engineering (AMP) is now accepting applications for the eighteenth AMP cohort, which will begin in late May 2017. To help determine if you qualify for admission, simply complete the free online pre-application today. We will review your preliminary application promptly and advise you on how to proceed with the admission process. If you know that this is the Program for you, please initiate the admissions process by submitting the preliminary application and begin your Official Application as well.

A Degree From One of Our Nation’s Top Public Universities

The Accelerated Master’s Degree Program in Systems Engineering represents an unprecedented opportunity for working professionals to earn an advanced degree from the University of Virginia. Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, and other organizations continue to rate the University of Virginia as one of our nation’s top public universities. Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University sustains Mr. Jefferson’s ideal of developing, through education, leaders who are well-prepared to help shape the future of the nation. Both the Department of Systems and Information Engineering and the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration are highly regarded across the United States and internationally.

A Powerful Learning Experience

An important strength of the Accelerated Master’s Program is the integrated approach the faculty have taken in creating the Program. Challenging courses are carefully coordinated and sequenced. The learning process in the classroom is leveraged by students’ ongoing work experience. Students assimilate their knowledge as they apply the skills they have gained in a meaningful way. Each year portions of the Program are customized to match the interests and needs of the particular students in that cohort. The Program concludes with an intensive design project in which students, working together in project teams, apply the skills they have gained throughout the year to a real-world problem for a real client. Students finish the Program with a coherent body of knowledge and the confidence they need to support effective decision-making involving any large-scale complex system.

Studying with a cohort of talented classmates is a key asset of this unique program. The learning environment is supportive and collaborative, and the cohort quickly becomes a close-knit group. AMP students are often engaged in teams working on course projects and case-study problems. As students interact with and learn from colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experience, they develop life-long professional contacts and personal friendships.
